Terms of service
The rules for using Arena56 and entering a match.
Updated October 5, 2026Using Arena56
These terms apply to the Arena56 website and its match interface. “Arena56,” “we” and “our” refer to the service. By using the service or entering a match, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not enter a match.
Matches use ETH on Base. Practice is free and does not require a stake.
Who can play
You must be at least 18 and meet any higher age requirement where you are located. You may enter an ETH match only where your participation is lawful. Do not bypass access restrictions or use the service if applicable law prohibits you from doing so.
You are responsible for your wallet, account security, transaction approvals and any taxes arising from your activity.
How a match works
Both players deposit the same stake. New matches are best of three: the first player to reach two points wins the match, except a simultaneous missed deadline ending at 2–2 returns the stakes as described below. Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper and paper beats rock. A draw replays the hand with the same stakes and adds no point.
Each commit phase lasts 30 seconds. Both players must lock a hidden move before reveal starts. Each reveal phase also lasts 30 seconds. Each move requires one wallet confirmation to lock it. Once both commitments are confirmed, the reveal service submits the moves and pays the reveal network fees. Keep the match open so the browser can deliver the reveal secret. Commit and reveal transactions must be included before their deadlines; pending transactions do not pause the clock.
| Missed deadline | Result |
|---|---|
| One player fails to commit or reveal | That player loses the hand. The other player gains one point. The match continues unless that point wins the match. |
| Neither player commits or neither reveals | Both players gain one point. Play continues at 1–1; a leading player at two points wins. At 2–2, the match ends and both stakes return minus the house fee. |
A connection failure, closed browser, lost move secret or missed wallet confirmation can cause a missed deadline. Timeout settlement may be submitted by the separate timeout service or by anyone through the contract. The onchain deadline determines eligibility.
Fees and returned stakes
The standard house fee is 2.5% of the total pot. It is charged once when the match ends with a winner, or when a simultaneous missed deadline ends the match at 2–2. A missed hand that does not end the match charges no fee.
For two stakes of 0.01 ETH, a winner paying the standard fee receives 0.0195 ETH. If simultaneous missed deadlines end the match at 2–2, each receives 0.00975 ETH and the house receives 0.0005 ETH. Integer rounding may make the two returned amounts differ by one wei.
A creator can request cancellation of an unjoined match. Once confirmed, the request removes it from the open lobby and starts a 10-second grace period. A join confirmed before that deadline overrides cancellation; otherwise settlement returns the full stake without a house fee. The contract cannot distinguish when a pending transaction was first submitted. Once an opponent joins, there is no voluntary cancellation. Players pay network fees for deposits, commits and any manual recovery transactions. Arena56’s reveal service pays reveal fees. Network fees are separate from the house fee and are not returned.
Payouts and returned stakes are sent to the participating wallets automatically during settlement. If a wallet rejects a transfer, its amount remains available as a contract credit to withdraw. Settlement requires an onchain transaction; the deadline alone does not move funds.
Fair play
Do not exploit vulnerabilities, interfere with other users, overload the service, impersonate an operator or attempt unauthorized access. Preset taunts are cosmetic and do not affect a score, timer or payment. We may restrict access to the interface to address abuse, security issues or legal requirements.
Wallet and network risks
ETH stakes can be lost. Blockchain transactions are generally irreversible. Smart contracts, wallets, RPC services and networks can fail or behave unexpectedly; delays may cause a missed deadline. Arena56 does not guarantee winnings, uninterrupted access, immediate settlement or error-free software.
The interface displays contract state, but visual countdowns and cached results can lag behind the blockchain. Verify the network, contract, stake and wallet request before approving a transaction. Restricting or discontinuing the website does not rewrite a deployed contract or erase existing obligations.
Service and liability
We grant permission to use the site for lawful personal play and spectating. Site branding, art, audio and software remain subject to their owners’ rights. Do not redistribute them without permission.
The service is provided as available, without warranties to the extent permitted by law. To that extent, Arena56 is not liable for indirect losses or losses caused by wallet compromise, user error, network outages or third-party services. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
Privacy, changes and contact
The Privacy policy explains data use. Updated terms will be posted here with a new date. Changes to a website policy do not alter the code or financial rules of an already deployed match contract.
